Austrian-German soprano. Born in 1983 in Neu-Ulm, Bavaria. Granddaughter of conductor Felix Prohaska, great-granddaughter of composer Karl Prohaska; her brother is tenor Daniel Prohaska. She soon moved with her parents to Vienna, and at the age of six moved from Vienna to Berlin. She graduated from the Berlin University of the Arts (Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler).
In 2002, she made her operatic debut at the Komische Oper Berlin as Flora in Britten's 'The Turn of the Screw' directed by Harry Kupfer. Since 2006, she has been a permanent soloist at the Berlin State Opera (Staatsoper Unter den Linden). She performs leading roles in operas by Stravinsky, Mozart, Handel, Verdi, Bizet; in addition to the standard operatic repertoire, she extensively performs early and contemporary music. In 2009, she took part in the world premiere of Wolfgang Rihm's 'Mnemosyne', and in 2012, she was the first performer of the title role of Inanna in Jörg Widmann's 'Babylon' at the Bavarian State Opera.
Since 2007, she has performed regularly with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Her performances with the Berlin Philharmonic under Claudio Abbado and Simon Rattle have been enthusiastically received by critics and audiences alike.
In 2009, she performed for the first time at the Salzburg Festival. She has appeared in productions at the Bavarian State Opera, La Scala, Paris Opera, Bolshoi Theatre, Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden, Theater an der Wien, and others. She maintains an active concert career, collaborating with major symphony orchestras and renowned chamber ensembles. In November 2014, she performed at the Grand Hall of the St. Petersburg Philharmonia as Dido in a concert performance of Purcell's 'Dido and Aeneas' with the orchestra and choir MusicAeterna conducted by Teodor Currentzis.
In 2013, she appeared in the documentary 'The Magic World of Anna Prohaska', and in 2014, she played the role of Caterina in the feature musical film 'Casanova Variations' alongside John Malkovich.
